Child of God, Ask of God

By Patti Christensen

As a daughter of God, my deepest desire is to know and to recognize my divine nature and potential as His child. It’s also my plea and prayer that my children will know this truth for themselves as well. Lucy Mack Smith shared and carried this same desire in her heart for her son. Would a 14-year old boy have embarked into the sacred grove to pray without knowing this eternal truth? Joseph Smith was an elect son of God sent to earth in this dispensation to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Aren’t each of us elect as well? Filled with divine potential at this appointed time to continue the work of the Restoration on earth?

On that early Spring morning, Joseph’s actions of seeking and reaching upward set an example and offered a pattern for personal revelation. Each of us are able to obtain this same light-filled gift if we are willing to quiet our minds and humble our hearts enough to ask.

“I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.” D & C 8:2
